Best Year EVER...

I went to my high school's 2010 graduation today and I got to feeling pretty nostalgic. I can't believe I was wearing the white dress and picking up my diploma just one year ago!

All of 2009 and the begining of 2010 have been pretty life changing for me! And I've finally gotten a chance to reflect on my year. So much happened: I got into college, had my Senorita Ball, I had prom, I graduated, moved to NYC, learned my way around, and lived on my own.

I wanted to share my life changing year in pictures! It was definitely one of the best years (year and half) of my life...

Here it is 2009-2010:

Me with a friend at our senior Prom 2009. In yellow, as usual. My dress is French Connection, her's is BCBG. The shoes are blue and sparkly (ha!) and my necklace (which you really can't see) is vintage.

My Senorita Ball (a New Mexican version of a Deb ball)... The dress is by Casa Blanca. It was so tight that I couldn't eat much and hated sitting, but I danced the night away, anyway! I felt so beautiful in my dress! The ball was definitely one of the best nights!

My graduation: May 31, 2009
(I used "boob tape" for the first time in my life, so worth it though...)

I'm hamming it up! I love this dress. Very Marilyn Monroe. It's by Dolce Vita. Naturally, we were told to wear white, so I just HAD to add some color. Right? Cue the purple Gianni Bini heels...

A few months later I was off to NYC for school.

Dorm room woes: no space for shoes... Truly, it was a task trying to fit all my shoes into a wardrobe.

I color code my clothes. It makes putting things together a bit easier. This was taken at the beginning of the year. The closet quickly became so stuffed that I couldn't get anything in or out! Those skinny velvet hangers really helped. Try some, if you're having a similar problem!

My desk at school. Must have: pictures and fake flowers... I tried to replicate my desk at home. I think it worked out pretty well.

This was taken back in October... That's my first trench coat by H&M and a dress by Chelsea and Violet.

Autumn in NY! Those t-strap shoes are Report.

Washington Square Monument in one of my favorite parks to walk through.

Outside the 3.1 Philip Lim studio downtown in Soho.

Kids play in the fountain in Washington Square park, others sit and watch, and many students  playing guitar. Great space to be in NYC in the spring time!

How photogenic is NYC?

Another NYC staple: tourists!

I just had to share my fantastic year... I hope you get a chance to get nostalgic and think of your best year, too!

Ring Toss

I just bought the cutest nail polish! It's OPI "Rumple's Wiggin'" and it's the perfect summery, fun color. So I decided to feature it in a post. I tried the color out with different jewelry and color combinations!

I was inspired by a Vogue September 2007 shoot. It's all about the accessories and pink.

Have a good one!

Right on Target

Finally back to outfit posts! I wore this a few days ago for a night out. This dress is the first thing I bought when I came home. It's from Target!

I needed something to pare the necklace I bought (in a set of three) from eBay for $5 with. The first (shorter) strand are real pearls that I got as a graduation present. I like the longer with the shorter strand. They look good together.

Definitely needed a tougher shoe to pare with the dress...

These shoes are one of my favorites. They're by Kenzie.

The two necklaces together.

It's a very cute print. It's small in scale, which I like.

I hope you have a good memorial day. I'm off to check out some sales! Hopefully I'll find something good!

Idol

(Somewhat) Timely title, no?

I just wanted to share with you some ladies that are fashion icons to me...

Amanda Brooks: Writer and Author of I Love Your Style.

(J Crew muse/model, to boot!)

Marina Rust Connor: Vogue Contributing Editor. I've long read her articles in Vogue. I think she has a lovely voice in her writing and I love her style. She's lovely. I even found her out of print novel Gatherings and bought it on Amazon!

Lauren Santo Domingo: Vogue Contributing Editor and socialite. Do you remember her wedding featured in Vogue March 2008? It was amazing.

Meredith Melling Burke: Vogue Market Editor. She's my icon because I want to have her job one day! She does floor-length really well, too...

Plum Sykes: Vogue Contributing Editor/Author. Another favorite Vogue writer of mine and a fabulous lady overall!

I'd love to know your fashion icons! Share them in comments...

Have a good one,
Emily

A Wall and An Education

So I kind of hit a wall. I had just come home and didn't really feel like talking about fashion, style, outfits, or anything of the kind. I didn't feel like talking about much, actually, and I didn't even mind hitting a creative wall.

I realized that I needed a break. A blogging, outfit creating, story telling, photographing BREAK. After more than a week, I feel all better. I'll post outfits soon enough and I'm working on a huge retrospective of my year... Until then, I've got something for you that I think is very inspiring.

I watched An Education today. Oh, man I fell hard! Not really for Carey Mulligan like most others (I did love her voice and she's such a cute girl). But the clothes on her companion, played by Rosamund Pike, took my breath away. Does anyone remember her from Pride and Prejudice?

Anyway, she's lovely. Her hair and make-up were sixties perfection! I've found a few photos for you that I loved from the movie... Check out the leopard and the statement jewelry. Aren't these shots well balanced, too?

 Here they are:

You should definitely see this movie. Apart from the costumes, it's quite visually stunning (especially that scene in Paris) and the story is excellent!

Getting Out of Dodge

I'm moving out right now and it is really hectic. Actually, my room looks just like this picture (below), but replace that fancy Vogue-appropriate luggage with boxes full of my junk.

I was thinking of you reader, as I always am, and took some pictures to show you the debris. However, I mentioned that I was packing, as anyone knows that when you pack you try to be thorough; you try to pare down and keep the things necessary for survival.

In a few words, I packed up my camera cord. Meaning: no pictures until I get home on Saturday.

Call it what you will (a break, some time off, bad luck, laziness), I'll be using other people's photos for a bit. I do apologize for this because you don't have to waste your time on my blog. You are busy. You have a life. But you are so kind to visit SD, comment, and enjoy my content. You do not visit SD to look at other people's photos that you could search for yourself. I know this. So, in short, thanks for bearing with me.

I'm leaving NYC. I can't believe it's been nine months! Wow, time does fly, doesn't it?
I'm REALLY GOING TO MISS NYC, but I'll be glad to be home. Expecting 80 degree (and above) weather for a solid four months. Yippee!

Does anyone remember this shoot from Vogue? It's one of my favorites!

If you're packing/studying for finals/moving/taking a trip/or doing anything really, I wish you good luck! I'll be in touch from NM very soon!

PS. My font is acting funny, too! Sorry for that...

A Post for Mom and Grandma...

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers and grandmas out there!

Especially to my own mom who I can thank for my fashion sense, my smile, and other (less impressive) traits!

And my grandmother for my name and my heirloom nose (all three of us have the same nose)!

You two are the BEST!

They clearly have to put up with a lot from me! Ha!

Have a good one!

Golden Girl

I'm pretty busy lately and I'll be honest that I haven't had much time to take pictures (or put on) cool outfits. Me? I'm busy studying, cramming, and packing for home. But I think every Blogger has those extra pictures or an extra post to use for times like these. So this is mine.

I've wanted to share these for a while. My little collection of vintage gold belts. You've seen one of my lion belts, but here are a few you haven't seen, yet:

My Ferragamo bought on Ebay for a VERY reasonable price. It was almost unreasonable how reasonable the price was...

Little shoes!

Authentic, too!

I wore this outfit in early January. My Richard Chai for Target skirt, old silk Gap blouse, the belt, leggies from Target, and my Gianni Binni yellows MJs.

Leaf belt from Ebay. Unfortunately, the outfit pictures were terrible, so none of those to show!

My lion. I have two others with smaller lion heads that link in the middle, but they're at home...

He's been on the blog a few times. I just can't get enough vintage gold belts from the 80s.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my vintage belt collection!
